Pencil Drawings Of Birds Biography
All prints are limited edition offset lithographs, signed "The Vanilla Indian," and come with a descriptive text about the animal from the Medicine Cards book.
The title "The Vanilla Indian" was given to me by a 14-year old Hualapai Indian boy. In 1994, I attended a Pow Wow on the Hualapai Reservation in Peach Springs, Arizona. This very special privilege caused me to receive a greater understanding and awareness of the Native American beliefs ... real and spiritual. For this reason, all of the animal drawings pertaining to Native American beliefs will be signed "The Vanilla Indian" and will be accompanied by a descriptive text about the animal as provided by the book, The Medicine Cards, written by Jamie Sams and David Carlson and published by Bear & Company Publishers (permission granted June, 1995).
Animal Medicine
Native Americans believe nature and animals relay life lessons that apply to humans. Animal Medicine can provide a pathway to personal power and a means to the healing and balance of mind, body and spirit. The power of an animal can connect one to the Great Mystery and teach one to walk in harmony and understanding with all the creatures, thereby gaining personal strength.
Some definition in detail and tonal range has been lost in the scannings process and placement on the site.
Janet's individual style of combining coloured pencil and graphite has been described as "weaving magic with pencil". Her realistic, detailed and gentle drawings of animals and birds full of personality and humour, have won many awards. Janet exhibits regularly in Australia and overseas.
Her realistic, detailed and gentle drawings are always of a high standard and reflect her own personality, humour, life experiences and love of our wildlife. Janet's love of drawing and her rapport with 'critters' is evident in her portrayal of animals and birds, either in their natural environment or co-habitating in suburbia. Drawing them in family groups, in pairs of 'friends' or in action or play, she captures their personality or "conversation" beautifully.
