Pencil Drawings Nature Biography
Jeffrey Gordon Whiting was born in 1972 in Ottawa (Canada's capital) and demonstrated his interest in nature and art at a very young age. He graduated with an Honours degree in Biology and Geology from Carleton University, also in Canada's capital. Jeff's life has many facets. He is a world-class wildlife sculptor, a naturalist, an instructor, an author and illustrator of several published books, a paleobiologist.

In 1997, Jeff combined his passions for nature and art with his business acumen and his technology knowledge and resources to found the Artists for Conservation Foundation (Formerly the Worldwide Nature Artists Group). The AFC has since become a prestigious association of artists and the world's leading artist collective supporting the environment.

Jeff is also co-founder and partner in a leading Internet consulting firm, ISCAPE Internet Consulting, based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. As ISCAPE's Director of Development & Systems, he is responsible for researching the latest Internet technologies and orchestrating their implementation with his Development and eMarketing teams.

Jeff is a versatile artist, and continues to experiment with new techniques, media and subjects. His work has been influenced by oriental artwork and disciplines, particularly Ikebana and Bonsai. Known best for his striking mixed-media sculptures, Jeff works predominantly in wood, metal and stone. In two-dimensional work, Jeff's preferred media are gouache and graphite.

Jeff's subjects range from anatomical restorations of prehistoric life, such as dinosaurs, to modern birds, insects and plants. Jeff produces a small number of creations, each requiring in excess of 1,000 hours of work.

Jeff is a member of the Society of Animal Artists, and has exhibited his work in the prestigious Leigh Yawkey Woodson "Birds in Art" exhibition. In 2011, Jeff was inducted into the Explorer's Club as a Fellow.

Jeff's works have also been presented abroad by Canadian diplomats to foreign dignitaries—one sculpture was presented by the Prime Minister of Canada to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. He has also received numerous First Prize awards for his carvings at both the World and North American Championships.

Jeff has received international media coverage for his artwork and leadership role in Artists for Conservation. Currently, Jeff and his wife reside in North Vancouver, British Columbia.

Support for Conservation:
Jeffrey has always been passionate about the environment, whether in its study, its documentation or its preservation. His scientific and artistic field studies of flora and fauna has lead him throughout North America to the cloud forests of Costa Rica, the Virunga Volcanoes and Rift Valley of Africa, the lowlands of Central America and the Patagonian region in southern Chile, to remote parts of northern Vietnam and of Borneo and to the World Heritage ecosystem of the Loire Valley in France. His art and his books aim to educate and inspire viewers and readers to learn more about our natural heritage.

Jeff sees himself contributing directly to the conservation agenda by leading AFC and facilitating other leading artists to take on greater leadership and educational roles in supporting conservation causes.
